La Paz Waterfall Gardens

When Bill and Jes travelled to Costa Rica in 2005 on their honeymoon, they stayed at the Peace Lodge, a very fancy, 5-star resort in Vara Blanca. They loved it here and encouraged us to check it, insisting that it would be worth it. Though luxury accommodations are not usually my style (I prefer more modest accommodations so I can save the funds to do more and stay longer), it is kinda fun to splurge every once in awhile. So we booked a night at the Peace Lodge (one hour from San Jose aiport) as our last stop before heading back to the States.

Man. If you are on a honeymoon or celebrating an anniversary or milestone birthday and want to ball out of control for a moment, stay here. Seriously.  This hotel far exceeded all of my expectations. I have never stayed in a room like this:

IMG_3474PazWaterfallIn addition to having ridiculously fancy rooms, the grounds were just as impressive.  There are several restaurants, a pool, an animal sanctuary, and the La Paz Waterfall gardens. I was so impressed with the animal sanctuary, which had everything from butterflies to monkeys to jungle cats (I like big cats and I cannot lie!). Then when you’re done checking out the animals, you can take the path through the waterfall gardens which will literally take you by five different waterfalls!  This place is amazing!  You don’t have to stay at the hotel to visit the park (there is a day use rate), but admission was free to hotel guest. Awesome perk. Whether you stay at the Peace Lodge or not, if you’re in the area, definitely check out the La Paz Waterfall Gardens.

Whenever I plan a trip, I always try to save the best for last, so I go out on a high note.  Mission totally accomplished in this case. The perfect end to an incredible Costa Rican vacation. Pura Vida, indeed!
